MG&A Pet owner market research – Do you think neutering is harmful for dogs?

Despite British Veterinary Association being strongly in support of the neutering of cats and dogs; the benefits of which outweigh the welfare implications, the internet is littered with articles on “To neuter or not to neuter”; some more balanced than others.

MG&A asked dog owners: Regardless of whether your dog has been spayed or neutered, how concerned are you that spaying or neutering is bad for them in some way?

A quarter of owners (25%) were concerned or very concerned that neutering could be harmful for their dog. Only a third (38%) were not concerned or had no concern at all.

About the sample

MG&A conducted an online survey among 250 dog owners in December 2016. The questions ranged from the serious to the frivolous.

All respondents were dog owners:
• Aged or 21y or older with 9% over 60y
• Either totally or jointly responsible for the health and well-being of the dog
• Living in UK

In addition to at least one dog:
• 27% had a cat
• 10% had a small furry
