MG&A Pet owner research – How concerned are you about tick-borne disease?
According to Vet Times (15 May 2017), Ian Wright, head of the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites UK and Ireland, has called for a concerted effort to win “the hearts and minds” of vets and pet owners to combat the growing threat of tick-borne diseases entering the UK.
MG&A asked dog owners how concerned they would be if their dog were not protected by a tick they may get a disease carried by ticks
Almost two thirds (60%) said they were either concerned or very concerned that, if not protected with a tick product, their dog may get diseases that are carried by ticks. A fifth (19%) were either not concerned or had no concern at all.
About the sample
MG&A conducted an online survey among 250 dog owners in December 2016. The questions ranged from the serious to the frivolous.
All respondents were dog owners:
• Aged or 21y or older with 9% over 60y
• Either totally or jointly responsible for the health and well-being of the dog
• Living in UK
In addition to at least one dog:
• 27% had a cat
• 10% had a small furry
