MG&A: Veterinary Market Research – If I could wave a magic wand, what ONE PET-RELATED wish would you like to come true?

MG&A carried out market research among pet owners and asked if I could wave a magic wand, what ONE PET-RELATED wish would you like to come true?

Results: The top answers given by both cats owners and dog owners were a long life and secondly, no health issues.

Background: MG&A carried out an on-line survey among owners of either cats or dogs. Questions ranged from the serious to the frivolous. Results are reported by cats and by dogs.

1) Who has a better life, you or your [CAT/DOG]?
2) What ONE word sums up the personality of your [CAT/DOG]?
3) What aspect of owning a [CAT/DOG] worries you most?
4) When your [CAT/DOG] dies, how likely would you be to get another one?
5) If I could wave a magic wand, what ONE PET-RELATED wish would you like to come true?
6) Which, if any, of the following do you feel your [CAT/DOG] has shown? (LIST OF EMOTIONS)
7) Which, if any, pet medicines have you bought online?
8) If you were ship-wrecked on a desert island, would you rather be shipwrecked with a partner or your [CAT/DOG]?
9) In general, which profession do you feel is most trustworthy? Doctors, dentists, solicitors or vets?
10) What ONE word sums up vets?
11) In the last 12 months, to which type of charity, if any, have you donated any money?
12) To what extent do you agree that children and adults in households where an animal has been abused are more likely to also have experienced child abuse and / or domestic violence i.e. do you think there is a link between animal abuse and child abuse / domestic violence?
13) There has been recent publicity about dogs attacking people. Do you think the incidence of dogs attacking people in the last few years has increased, decreased or stayed the same?
14) Have you ever personally been bitten by a dog to a point where it drew blood?
15) In some places in the world, dogs must be registered and cheek swabs taken to collect their DNA. When dog poo is found on the streets, it gets sent to the lab and analysed for its DNA. If the dog is found to belong to you, you will be fined (in Naples, Italy, this fine is about £400). Do you think this should be introduced in UK?
16) Bovine tuberculosis, TB, is a disease that affects cattle and is a major concern for dairy farmers. TB also affects other animals such as badgers, deer, goats, pigs, dogs and cats. Although the risk is considered very low, tuberculosis can be passed from infected animals to humans. Badgers pass TB to cattle. In certain parts of the country, therefore, badgers have been killed in order to try and reduce the spread of TB, with a view to one day being able to eradicate TB. Do you agree that badgers should be killed in order to try and reduce the spread of TB?
