MG&A veterinary market research: Who would you rather marry; a vet, a GP or a dentist?

On Valentine’s day, our attention turns to love…

According to Wiki, “Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines”). In Europe, Saint Valentine’s Keys are given to lovers “as a romantic symbol and an invitation to unlock the giver’s heart”, as well as to children, in order to ward off epilepsy (called Saint Valentine’s Malady). Valentine’s Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.”

In a recent survey, we asked 250 dog owners “Assuming they all earned the same amount of money, who would you rather be married to, a vet, a human doctor or a dentist?

Half of dog owners (50%) said they would rather be married to a vet, 41% to a human doctor and only 10% would prefer to be married to a dentist. Who would you rather marry?

MG&A conducted an online survey among 250 dog owners in December 2016. The questions ranged from the serious to the frivolous.

About the sample:

All respondents were dog owners:
• Aged or 21y or older with 9% over 60y
• Either totally or jointly responsible for the health and well-being of the dog
• Living in UK

In addition to at least one dog:
• 27% had a cat
• 10% had a small furry
